RHSTEP’s UYP (Unlocking Youth Potential) project organized a special adolescent health awareness session at the Shaheed Rumi Library in the Karail Community to promote Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), adolescent well-being, and equal access to health information. The program, held under the theme “Safe Adolescence: Sexual and Reproductive Health Protection and Equal Rights,” aimed to empower adolescents and young people with the knowledge and life skills needed to make informed decisions and adopt healthy lifestyles.
The awareness session focused on a range of issues affecting adolescent health and development, including the importance of family support during puberty, prevention and awareness of reproductive tract infections, and the physical and psychological changes experienced during adolescence. Participants were encouraged to engage in open discussions, ask questions, and share their perspectives in a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Recognizing the growing influence of technology in young people's lives, the session also highlighted the harmful effects of digital addiction on education, mental health, and social relationships. Practical strategies for maintaining a healthy balance between digital engagement and personal well-being were discussed, helping participants understand the importance of responsible technology use.
The program was facilitated by Program Officer Tanzina Sultana, Multimedia Trainer Ahadul Siraj, and Community Advocate Liza Akter of the Shaheed Rumi Library, Karail Community. Through interactive discussions and participatory learning activities, the facilitators encouraged adolescents to develop healthy behaviors, strengthen their life skills, and become informed advocates for their own health and well-being.
A total of 15 adolescents from different age groups within the Karail Community actively participated in the session. Their enthusiastic engagement reflected the growing interest among young people in learning about adolescent health, SRHR, and healthy lifestyle practices.
Through this initiative, RHSTEP reaffirmed its commitment to promoting adolescent health, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), youth empowerment, digital well-being, and community-based health education through the Aporajeyo Tarunno (UYP) project. By equipping young people with accurate information and practical life skills, RHSTEP continues to contribute to building healthier, safer, and more informed communities across Bangladesh.
