On **25 July 2026**, RHSTEP’s **Aparajeyo Tarunno (Unlocking Youth Potential) Chattogram Centre** organized a workshop titled **“Breaking Gender Barriers”** to raise awareness about gender-based discrimination and promote equal rights, opportunities and participation for young women.
The workshop was chaired by **Apu Dasgupta**, Project Officer, Aparajeyo Tarunno Chattogram Centre. **Pranabesh Chakraborty**, Staff Reporter at 71 Television, participated as the speaker, while **Annie Chowdhury**, Youth Officer, moderated the session. The program began with a PowerPoint presentation delivered by Youth Officer Annie Chowdhury, introducing participants to the key issues surrounding gender barriers and equality.
The discussion highlighted that although significant progress has been made in promoting equal rights for women and men, many young women still face various forms of discrimination in **accessing healthcare, participating in decision-making and taking on leadership roles**.
Speakers identified several social and structural barriers that continue to limit the potential of young women, including **socio-economic challenges, gender-based stereotypes, early marriage, limited educational opportunities and lack of awareness**. These barriers can restrict young women’s ability to make informed decisions, access essential services and participate equally in family, community and social affairs.
The session emphasized that breaking gender barriers is not only essential for advancing the rights and development of women but is also critical to building a **healthy, just and sustainable society**. Participants were encouraged to challenge discriminatory attitudes and practices and contribute to creating an environment where young women and men can enjoy equal rights, opportunities and dignity.
Through initiatives such as the **“Breaking Gender Barriers”** workshop, **RHSTEP’s Aparajeyo Tarunno (UYP)** continues to engage young people in discussions on gender equality, social justice and inclusive development, while encouraging them to become active contributors to positive social change.
