On 12 August 2026, RHSTEP’s Aparajeyo Tarunno (UYP) Sylhet Centre observed International Youth Day 2026 under the theme “Different Contexts, One Common Goal.” The event brought together young people from different schools, communities, and tea gardens across Sylhet.

The program was chaired by Mehedi Hasan, Project Officer, Aparajeyo Tarunno, RHSTEP Sylhet. The event began with the national anthem, followed by a discussion session focusing on the role of young people in social development and health-related change.

The discussion highlighted youth leadership, meaningful social participation, and the role of young people in health reform. Participants also discussed the health rights of marginalized communities and the importance of accountability in healthcare services.

A key focus of the discussion was the role of youth-led watchdog initiatives in monitoring healthcare services and promoting greater accountability and responsiveness. The session encouraged young participants to understand their role in identifying community concerns and contributing to positive social change.

The discussion was joined by Mehedi Hasan, Project Officer, Aparajeyo Tarunno, RHSTEP Sylhet; Mentors Tanzina Begum and Mahfuz Alam; the Unit Manager of RHSTEP Sylhet; and relevant teachers. Their participation provided participants with opportunities to exchange views and explore ways young people can contribute to healthier and more inclusive communities.

Following the discussion, a cultural program was organized with enthusiastic participation from the young attendees. The program featured group and solo songs, dance, poetry recitation, comedy, and other cultural performances.

Through discussion, participation, and cultural expression, the celebration provided a meaningful platform for young people to reflect on their role in leadership, health advocacy, social participation, and community development, making International Youth Day 2026 a vibrant and engaging occasion in Sylhet.
