On 15 August 2026, Aparajeyo Tarunno Chattogram organized a session titled “Gender Equity: A Right, Not a Privilege” to raise awareness about gender equity, equal rights, and the importance of challenging discriminatory social norms.
The session was chaired by Apu Dasgupta, Project Officer, Aparajeyo Tarunno Chattogram. Discussions were led by Brother Samuel Sabuj Bala, Principal of St. Placid’s School and College, and Probal Majumder, Senior Teacher of Chattogram Cantonment School and College. The session was moderated by Annie Chowdhury, Youth Officer, who also delivered a PowerPoint presentation highlighting key aspects of gender equity.
The speakers emphasized that gender equity is not limited to numerical representation; it requires meaningful equality in decision-making, recognition of unpaid household work, freedom in education and career choices, and equal opportunities for all. They also highlighted the importance of challenging gender stereotypes and creating supportive environments where individuals can speak out against bullying, discrimination, and exploitation.
The discussion further emphasized that advancing women’s rights does not mean taking away men’s rights. Rather, achieving greater gender equity benefits society as a whole by ensuring that everyone has an equal opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive.
The session concluded with an engaging ice-breaking activity facilitated by Mentor Saidur Rahman and his team, providing participants with an opportunity to interact, connect, and reflect on the key messages of the session.
