Our journey and impact in improving reproductive health across Bangladesh
RHSTEP (Reproductive Health Services Training and Education Program) began in 1983 as a government initiative (MRTSP) and evolved into a registered NGO by 1989. It renamed as RHSTEP in 2002 to broaden its reproductive health services across Bangladesh. The organization is officially registered with relevant government bodies and approved by the Directorate of Family Planning.
RHSTEP is a pioneer in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) training, having trained nearly 25,000 service providers including doctors, nurses, and midwives. It operates 13 training centers and provides SRHR services through 34 Centers, including 12 Medical College Hospitals, 9 District Hospitals, one Outreach clinic in Gaibandha, and a maternity clinic in Dhaka. Each year, approximately 600,000 people benefit from its services.
Beyond clinical services, RHSTEP actively engages in Community outreach and Demand creation through educational campaigns in schools, communities, and garment factories, and has established youth hubs (Alordhara Pathshala) in 4 districts
RHSTEP is a leading Advocate for SRHR policies in Bangladesh, collaborating with policymakers, ministries, and NGOs. It is a member of national technical and executive committees and leads several SRHR-focused coalitions.
Through Research and Evaluation, RHSTEP continuously improves its programs. Notable studies include topics on adolescent SRHR education, cervical cancer awareness, barriers in MR/PAC/GBV services, and the impact of climate change on SRHR.
